Where the water remembers.
More than 150 years ago, this land was the Paaruwa Totupola—a ferry yard nurtured by Mendis Perera Mudalai and connected to Sri Lanka’s inland waterway trade.
House boats brought rice, spices and gems from the Ratnapura heartland towards Panadura. Local ferries, oruwa and angula craft, cattle carts, tea boutiques and communal bathing places formed a living water-centred community.
The calm water and hospitality you experience today grow from that same place. The Paaruwa Journal will preserve these histories, explain the vessels and rituals, and connect local heritage with present-day travel.
